About Us
In business for five years, M-Art is a direct importer of Chinese and Asian antiques, as well as custom-designed pearls. The staff has 25 years of experience in Asian imports and handpicks only the very best pieces to place in the Fairhope, Alabama show room.
Marty and Rex Leatherbury were first drawn to China in 2003 to open an office for the United States Basketball Academy. When given the task of furnishing both the office and their apartment, they began the journey that led them not only to the markets of Beijing but also to the outlaying villages.
Learning Mandarin and finding treasures, they began to ship specialty pieces back home to friends in the States, and Marty began designing pearl jewelry for herself and for her family.
While in China, Rex and Marty also became involved in a program called Kham Aid, a foundation devoted to raising funds to send Tibetan girls to school in Southwestern China. Today, M-Art commits over 10 percent of their profits directly to the White Oaks Foundation (501 C-3) with the mission and commitment to help children around the world through education. So far the foundation has sponsored as many as 29 children from Ecuador, India, China and Indonesia.
